Registered Phlebotomy Technician

Description of Work

photo of phlebotomy technician Collects blood samples and body fluids from patients for laboratory testing. Using knowledge of the circulatory system and safety-conscious, blood-drawing techniques, Registered Phlebotomy Technicians (RPTs) draw blood using hypodermic needles.

Personal Qualifications

RPTs should have good interpersonal and communication skills, patience, practicality, and accuracy. They also need to be organized, responsible, and have good blood taking skills. Since a lot of bending is required in their work, they should be fit and healthy with good hand-eye coordination.

Hospitals, laboratories, blood banks, clinical settings, home health care, nursing homes and blood-donor agencies.
